My Inspiration For Writing.

My book is a fictional story based loosely on true life events that occurred in my life. Especially when I was accused and the first ever to be convicted of the Trade Embargo Law.

I Was A Millionaire At The Age Of 30 And Broke By 40

Caught up and railroaded.

I found myself wrapped up in a US government plot via the commodities brokerage business I was in whereby CIA Assets used me to procure telecommunications equipment to spy on Saddam Hussein.

Unwittingly, I sold them used telecom equipment for a cell phone system with no software. Meetings were regularly held in the USA and in Washington DC so I felt safe with the people I did business with. Shipments were carefully coordinated to arrive in Turkey and other information about this being a United States initiative was constantly being brought up in supplier meetings.

"My personal account was $300,000, which was later almost completely depleted by legal fees. Yes, I went from having $300,000 in my account to about $3000 and then ended up with $300 in prison."

Honest Ignorance And Innocence

I never thought I was doing anything wrong. I later found out this hardware and used equipment was going to be deployed with special software so the United States could spy on Saddam Hussein and take down the regime. Defending myself and going through every leg of the legal system, I found myself being tossed inside a Federal Women’s Prison Camp in Lexington, Kentucky.

"I called the US Department of Commerce to ensure that the export from the UK to Turkey was legal: it was. I had also asked Sami to sign an affidavit that solidified where the equipment was going, he was happy to sign it."

Unlucky, Unfair & Everything Went Wrong

Many people fought for me. I had political support, advocates, legal support and support from a now retired U.S. Army General.

My case was unjust as the Government suppressed and sealed evidence that would have acquitted me during my trial. I was a scapegoat for whatever agenda was happening at that time.  The Prosecutor became the U.S. Attorney based on my conviction, a role she marched for and destroyed people at any cost.  My judge had little or no trial experience with criminal matters and made bad rulings in our case, according to legal and judicial experts. Being that this was a local, Detroit case, I was repeatedly told that if this case were in Washington, it would not have been the same outcome.

"Special agent Ward was asking questions about Mina, if she knew the equipment was for Iraq. I said no, to the best of my knowledge, she did not, and I never told her."

I’m The First And Hopefully The Last.

Being the first person in the history in the country that has been charged, indicted, tried and convicted for Conspiracy to Violate the Trade Embargo with Iraq, I wrote my book because I want to inspire others.  I want to make sure that what happened to me does not happen to others and if it does, there is a ceiling for punishment.

My case is a landmark case with issues that will affect other’s similarly situated.  I choose to inspire and move forward with my life and make sure that people stuck in their own prison can understand that you can overcome any adversity and live an amazing life.  It is not easy, but with the right mindset, support and motivation, you can too. I choose to inspire people through my speaking and my story.

"Miss B concluded our victory with, the first time is always free! Need something? Now you know who to call! The bacon was our business card. Right then and there I decided to start a business. Some things never change."

Nearly A Decade Of Gathering Thoughts.
dawn-hanna-book-author-public-speaker-writing.jpg

It has taken me nearly a decade to gather my thoughts, the events and truth of what happened to me. The pain I had endured from over a decade of Government harassment, incarceration and rebuilding my life took me on a journey of writing journals, documenting and living in a new world.

Writing a film script was the first step I took to documenting events that had happened to me from start to finish. I had all of my material organized in years of journals, pictures, countless emails and interviews with family, friends and associates. Follow me for the release date of my new book.

A Positive That Came Out Of The Covid Era.

In writing my book, I took the approach of humor.  I wanted to tell my story with a twist of humor and show what had happened to me, coming from a place of love, not hate.  It is easy to hate and takes much more energy to hate those that have wronged you and placed unnecessary pain and hardship on you.

Digging inside yourself to come from a place of love and rise above the adversity takes time and operating on a higher vibration allows you to forgive and heal, letting the past go and embracing the blessings of the present and future.  I want to share the journey with other’s so they can have a look into the judicial and correctional system, the reality of incarceration and know that there is life on the other side of any challenge you may face in life.

"Misty talked Lucia into sneaking me out with the laundry. A couple miles down the street at a place called Blue Grass Burritos, one of her local Mexican cousins would meet me and wheel me off to Mexico in his sedan. I wondered if we could order burritos before we headed south of the border."
